The Differences We Make

Our extensive teaching experience, uncompromised artistic vision and industry insights allow us to make corrections and improvements based on other music programs in the current market.

We are proud of the good differences we make. We believe these differences will make our students stand out from the crowd.

Music exams as a natural step of musical journey

The current market:

The majority of music lessons offered in the market are very much based on music examination. Parents and teachers often set music exams as a goal of their music lessons. Students are often restricted to learn a limited number of exam pieces for the whole school year. In addition, students often learn music under a stressful situation where they are pushed for the next grade exam. Such learning experience is driven by negative values such as fear and stress, which cause students to lose motivations and develop a negative mindset for music.

At Meadow Music School:

We focus on learning and teaching quality. Our aim is to equip students with the ability to think critically and express music in different styles. We treat music exams as a natural step of their musical journey. In other words, we encourage students to sit for exams only when they have the actual ability and confidence to do so. In this way, students will always be driven by positive values such as confidence and faith, which reinforces their motivations and creates a positive mindset for music.

Learn all aspects of music at early stages of music study

The current market:

The recent changes of music exam regulations provide incentives for teachers, parents and students to focus on learning music only by reading the notes. Many aspects of music, such as music theory, scales, sight-reading, aural skills and general knowledge, are either optional or non-examinable. As a consequence, students rely heavily on memory to learn music. Such an approach generates immediate but short-lived results. Students will often experience greater difficulties in their advanced level of music study as their memory will become a limiting factor.

At Meadow Music School:

We promote a holistic and sensory learning experience at early stages of music study. Students will learn to integrate different musical elements since the beginning of their musical journey. We insist that students should learn and explore all aspects of music. Therefore, students will understand that different aspects of music are equally important and constantly connected. Our approach will provide students with opportunities to build a solid foundation and apply different musical skills in practice. In this way, students will continue to grow even beyond their advanced level of music study.

Extend music education outside classroom

The current market:

Most music programs in the current market focus on activities conducted in classroom. In fact, students often response differently to the same activities in class because they have a different mindset. Children develop their mindset from the environment they grow up in. It implies that some students will have an advantage of learning music over others. By only focusing on activities conducted in classroom, the effectiveness of music lessons may be compromised for a certain group of students.

At Meadow Music School:

Based on our teaching experience throughout the past years, we observe and summarise the characteristics of our most successful students. They play music professionally because they grow up in an engaging environment where they develop a better mindset for learning music. By studying what contributes to their success and helping parents to create an engaging environment for learning, we can increase the overall effectiveness of music lessons. In other words, we take a step further to extend music education outside classroom by helping students to form a resilient mindset for learning music.
